The best cafes in Melbourne (according to GoGet members)

Melbourne is bursting at the seams with great coffee, and Melbourne’s cafe culture is world famous. So there are a tonne of really good cafes across the city!

Because members of GoGet Car Share really plugged-in to their communities, we asked them which cafes were the best in their area. Here’s what they came up with – the best cafes in Melbourne, according to GoGet members.

Fitzrovia

In the northern part of St Kilda, Fitzrovia has a lot going for it, and we’re not surprised it topped the lists of a few GoGetters. It’s a restaurant as well as a cafe, so the meals are more of a sit-down affair. But their coffee doesn’t suffer, using locally roasted beans made by expert baristas.

If you do have a meal here, you’ll have some cracking views over Albert Park and an exhaustive wine list. Prices are a little higher than average, but still reasonable. That said, if you plan to visit regularly they have a loyalty program that can knock 10% off your bill.

Head along for a drink or a meal from 7am to 3pm Monday and Tuesday, 7am to 9pm Wednesday to Friday, 8am to 9pm Saturdays, or 8am to 4pm Sundays. Check our their menu on their website, or have a look at their Instagram.

Kuu Japanese Cafe

South Melbourne cafes tend to make consistently great coffee, but Kuu offers something different. Serving up modern versions of authentic Japanese food, Kuu Cafe takes pride in staying true to a ‘healthy and balanced’ philosophy.

Of course, Japan isn’t really known for great coffee (vending machines aside) – so Kuu’s caffeinated offering has a much more Melbournian focus. It’s smooth, expertly made, and ethically sourced. They also have cute animal latte art, which is great for adults and kids!

They’re open early enough for a late breakfast, and for dinner four nights a week. Head along 9am to 4pm Monday, 9am to 9pm Tuesday to Friday, or 9am to 4pm on weekends. You can find them online or on Instagram.

Staple

Staple is a relatively new addition to the St Kilda coffee scene, but it’s already making an impact with GoGet members. Owner Evan Lindau has been making great coffee for decades, and wanted to get back to basics with this establishment.

Staple focuses on fantastic coffee and great, simple food – hence the name. Don’t be fooled though, the meals are incredible and the coffee doesn’t defy Melbourne’s world class standards (i.e. it’s flipping great!). Staple is also a mini providore, offering organic produce from potatoes to toilet paper.

For a return to fantastic food and coffee in a space as clean as the products, visit Staple between 7am and 4pm Monday to Friday, or 8am and 4pm on weekends and public holidays. Check them out online and on Instagram.

Reunion & Co

Reunion & Co tastes as good as it looks – and everything about it looks great! You’ll find it on Bridge Road in Richmond, a fitting setting for its suitably hip atmosphere.

The coffee is as good as you’ll find in Melbourne, but Reunion & Co really makes a statement with its menu. Presentation is important here, and the team pride themselves on offering something different for both your eye balls and your tongue balls. The all day breakfast menu is a particular draw, and the cafe is always busy on a weekend morning – that says something good!

Reunion & Co are open 7am-4pm weekdays, and 8am-4pm on weekends and public holidays. You can see more of them at their website or on Instagram.

Mayday Cafe

Mayday cafe is found in the buzzing cafe district of Bridge Road, Richmond, and is a real local treasure. Fantastic service, a great selection of dishes, and coffee to rival the best in the city all make for a great place to stop down or zone out.

A fresh but unpretentious environment compliments the top quality service, and the food is very reasonably priced. They offer both sit down meals and baked treats from the coffee bar, so whether you’ve got a minute or an hour, they can help you refuel.

Mayday Cafe is open seven days a week from 7am to 4pm. Find out more and see their menu online or on Instagram.

Happy tasting!
