The year is 2002, an era where the expenses and hassles of owning a car far outweigh the convenience it promises. Newtown residents Nic Lowe and Bruce Jeffreys felt the full weight of this problem and together sparked an idea that led them to challenge the status quo of car ownership. Taking their idea to Newtown Festival, Nic and Bruce set up their own stall and ignited conversations about the merits of hourly access over full-fledged ownership. This marked the humble beginnings of Newtown CarShare, which officially launched on June 6, 2003.

What started as a local remedy quickly became a national movement, rebranding as GoGet and branching out from Newtown across Sydney and in Melbourne, and Brisbane too. Our growth in members is a testament to a service that answers a pressing need, for both individuals and their local communities.
