Newtown holds a very special place in GoGet history. It was a fine Sunday in November 2002, when two Newtown residents, Nic Lowe and Bruce Jeffreys, cheekily borrowed a new car and set up a stall at the annual Newtown Festival under the name ‘Newtown CarShare’. A few thousand residents of Sydney’s inner west were asked if they would be interested in swapping private car ownership for hourly access to a fleet of cars parked in their neighbourhoods.
Fast forward to June 6th 2003 when Newtown CarShare was officially launched! We had just 3 vehicles and 12 founding members. The first trip, taken by founding members Fiona and Dale took place the very next day.
Expansion to Melbourne in 2004 necessitated a less location specific name and GoGet came to be. We may no longer have “Newtown” in the name, but it’s still close to GoGet’s heart. And from 3 cars back in 2003, we now have over 3,500 - with more than 50 in Newtown alone.

How do I join & how soon can I drive?
